Entry 37: "Our Father "

"Our Father is how we address God cause we are "Christ's", sons of God & we have to behave as such; like little children who are humble and trusting. We say "our" for we glorify The Father with the Son and Holy Spirit in union with our brothers and sisters in Christ's church- all men for whom God The Father gave His only Son.

"Who art in heaven" does not refer to a place but to God's majesty and presence in the hearts of the just. Heaven is being at home with God who is above all things "hollowed be thy name" asks that God's name be treated in a holy way by fulfilling His purpose in our lives – that we might become holy and blameless in His sight Coll 1:22. The 1st of 7 petitions is the key petition and includes all the others.

"Thy Kingdom come prays for the final coming of the Kingdom of God through Chris's return in glory. Also praying for God's kingdom to grow in our lives today and the lives of people becoming more holy and committed to making the world just and peaceful "thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" The will of The Father is that all men be saved Tim 2:4. We ask God our Father to unite our will to His.

"Give us this day our daily bread" expresses our trust in the goodness of our daily food also asking so that those who have more will care for those who have less in justice and solidarity. We also hunger to receive Jesus in the word and in the Bread kneaded in the Passion and the Holy Spirit.

"Forgive us for our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us "begs God's mercy for our sins mercy reaching our hearts only if we forgive our enemies acknowledging we are sinners proclaiming God's mercy we receive in Christ's sacraments.

"Lead us not into temptation asks God not to allow us to take the path to sin begging God's help to discern good from bad and be like Jesus who overcame temptation with prayer "but deliver us from evil" prays to God to show victory of Christ's death over satan, the evil one over all his evil deeds...asking for peace and perseverance up to the end of our lives. "Amen" expresses our "let it be done unto me" - "So be it"
